WASHINGTON: A federal appeals court ruled that the FBI raid
on Democratic Congressman William Jefferson (D-LA)
to investigate bribery and corruption was illegal.
Jefferson was re-elected to a ninth consecutive term even
while he was under investigation for bribery.
"I am completely vindicated, as I knew I would be," said
Representative Jefferson. "I keep cash in my freezer wrapped
in tinfoil, as is every American's right. Huey Long had
cash hidden in his freezer, and Louisianians loved him."
The FBI was ordered to pay $1.8 million in court costs.
