WASHINGTON: Senator Richard Luger (R-IN) said today in the senate
that the war in Iraq is lost. "[T]he president is not the only
American leader who will have to make adjustments to his or her thinking."
"In my judgment, the costs and risk of continuing
down the current path outweigh the potential benefits that might be
achieved," Luger continued. "At some point, we just can't expect
to get enough oil out of Iraq to make it worth while."
Demoncratic Senators were quick to point to this as a turning
point; "Luger is just the first," said Senator Mary Bailey
(D-NT). "We need more Republicans to stand up against Bush."
"That will depend on whether more Republicans take the stand
that Sen. Lugar took, a courageous stand," Senate Majority
Leader Harry Reid responded.
