HOLLYWOOD: The Writer's Guild of America went on strike at 12:01 AM.
At 6:30 AM, California time, the Republican National Committee cancelled a
planned debate in Los Angeles set for later in the month.
Speaking
on condition of anonymity, Pat "John" Philben, late of FEMA,
stressed, "Fred Thompson is going into reruns, and Arnold
Schwartzenegger is saving his speeches to have fresh material into
February." Spokesmen for Sen. John McCain, Gov. Mike Huckabee and
Rudy Giuliani added, "we have nothing to say. Literally, we have
nothing to say."
A representative of Ronald Reagan's estate, noting that the late
president was once head of the Screen Actors Guild, said his library
would be closed to honor the strike.
