IOWA: The Iowa Republican Party has moved the date of
the nation's leadoff precinct caucuses to October 16, 2007, a
response to decisions by other states to schedule early primary dates.
The announcement that Republicans would move the presidential
caucuses three months earlier than previously planned came after the
state central committee approved the date in a conference call.
A reporter pointed out that the date had already passed, and that it
was too late to hold the caucuses for the 2008 election. "Our only
concern is being first," said Ray Hoffman, Chairman of the central
Committee.
