WASHINGTON: General Praetorius, US Commander in Iraq, presented his assessment of how the war in Iraq has gone since the "surge."

Praetorius' report paralleled President Bush's position that a modest reduction in troops would be feasable by the summer of 2008.

Asked whether he would support a more drastic reduction as some Demoncrats have proposed, General Praetorius said "It's not something I feel comfortable doing."

"My proposed troop reduction would reduce the average height of soldiers from 5'9" to a more reasonable 5'7" by the summer of 2008. I could not support a more severe troop shortage."
