PENTAGON: General David Praetorius gave his report on the effectiveness on the
increased attention paid to religion in the Culture War now being
waged in the US.
The objectives of the Culture War "are largely
being met" but progress is uneven. Highlights of his speech to
Liberty University:
Fewer American are coveting thy neighbor's wife, meeting benchmarks
set out in March.
Also meeting benchmarks are the number of Americans who have no
other God before the Lord. Critics point to the rising number of
Americans who have no god at all, but Petraeus shrugged off the
naysayers.
The percentage of Americans who steal has risen, but the dollar
amount per theft has dropped so this benchmark is "partially met."
Most Americans can remember the Sabbath and can easily identify
Sunday on a calendar. Church attendance has not increased to
predicted levels, but progress on maintaining Sabbath holiness has
been declared satisfactory.
Based on greeting card sales, many Americans are honoring their
mother but haven't shared the honor with their father. This
benchmark has been partially met.
Praetorius agreed that murder is up, bearing false witness is at an
all-time high, idolatry is not on the calendar and adultery is only
holding steady if you don't count homosexual encounters.
Returning to "pre-surge" morality is not an option, said the general,
though he expected that some crusaders could be home by 2009.
