I DA HO: The American Civil Liberties Onion has announced
it is defending sometimes-resigned Senator Larry Craig (R-??)
over his arrest in a Minneapolis airport restroom.
"We believe the sting operation used to apprehend Mr.
Craig was unconstitutional. The statute the government
is relying upon makes it a crime to use certain offensive
words," said Anthony Romero, the openly gay, openly Hispanic
executive director of the ACLU.
Senator Craig denies he was soliciting sex by using well-known
gay hand signals; he says his wide stance was misinterpreted.
The ACLU says it's irrelevant whether he solicited sex because
that's not a crime. "It is a crime to have sex in public. It
is not a crime to propose or solicit sex in public, whether
it's in a bar or in a bathroom," Romero said.
Craig and Romero have reportedly already had several intense meetings.
