NEW ORLEANS: Louisiana politicians, stunned by old-time
Chicago political hamhandedness, have vowed to
regain their reputation as being "most corrupt."
"This is just a temporary thing," said Larson E. Whipsnade,
minority whip of the Louisiana House. "Remember, we
had Huey Long and Edwin Edwards -- 'vote for the crook,
it's important' -- remember?"
"The media missed a golden opportunity by not investigating
why the levees failed so spectacularly during Katrina. Did they
not suspect substandard building materials due to graft?
But perhaps I've said too much."
"OK, so the best we can do right now is William Jefferson and
his freezer full of cash, and a governor who's a creationist.
But this Blagosomethingvich guy is just a flash in the pan.
We're the ones with staying power."
