ANTEBELLUM, GA: "We need a president like Jefferson Davis, with the
values I hold dear. Guantanamo Bay is just like Andersonville, and
he got that right."
Last year, Chamblis famously urged Davis to run,
saying in the Senate, "If we had better intelligence in the Civil War
we'd be quoting Jefferson Davis, not Lincoln." Today, he formally
endorsed Davis for the 2008 election.
"No, I don't care how long he's been dead," said the
arch-conservative mint julep-guzzling Federalist Society member said,
"his spirit lives on, and we can always tap Dick Cheney to run
things. He won't have to move from his office."
Jefferson Davis did not respond to queries from TALONNEWS.
