WASHINGTON: The National Republican party, still trying to scrape together
a coalition of dissatisfied voters to form a viable opposition party, have
decided to "go gay" after the Obama administration's recent GLBT gaffs.
The Obama administration has gotten a lot of grief from gay supporters
for their recent defence of DOMA by the Institute of Justice.
"The Obama administration is no different from the Bush administration
when it comes to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Don't Ask/Don't
Tell (DADT)" said former vice-president Dick Cheney. "I should know!"
"But now that I and lots of other Republicans are out of power, we
can come out in favor of gay rights while not actually doing anything
tangible" (note: Cheney has stated support for same-sex marriage since
leaving office; he has a gay daughter, Mary Cheney)
"So we're officially the 'Gay Old Party' now, and we're trying to attract
gay voters" explained Cheney. "I figure we can string some of them
along enough to get a few more Republicans into office, if we can hold
on to the Evangelicals at the same time. But we managed to keep
Evangelicals and Mormons as Republicans for years, and look at how
much they hate each other!"
Is that a big Republican tent, or are you just happy to see me?
